Trackers that work with Apple Find My don't have GPS of their own. Nearby iPhones and other Apple devices spot the tag over Bluetooth and report its location anonymously, which shows up in your Find My app.
That means they work best where people are about, and you need an iPhone or iPad to set one up. Apple's anti-stalking alerts will also warn someone if an unknown tracker is moving with them.
